Job Summary
The Sterile Processing Technician (OR) processes instruments, supplies, linens and equipment for patient care use.
Job Duties
Decontaminates instruments and equipment.
1. Decontaminates instruments and equipment according to departmental policy.
2. Wears appropriate protective apparrel during decontamination processes.
3. Ensures that items are decontamianted promptly upon return to the department.
4. Maintains both decontamiation and clean areas in a clean and orderly fashion.
Assembles and packages instrument trays, linen packs and supply items.
1. Demonstrates correct assembling of instrument trays, according to count sheet.
2. Communicates with SPD Supervisor regarding missing instruments or need for changes to the count sheet.
3. Ensures completeness of trays and packs by taking initiative to locate missing items.
4. Inspects linen prior to utilization.
5. Folds and prepares linen items per deparmental guidelines.
6. Ensures that the appropriate number of linen packs are readily available as back-up stock, per unit guidelines.
Operates sterilizers and monitors sterilization parameters.
1. Operates ALL sterilizers in the department with 100% accuracy. Notifies Lead Technician of any concerns.
2. Monitors sterilization gauges, charts, tapes and biological/chemical indicators to ensure that adequate sterilization paraments have been met.
3. Accurately documents sterilizer load records accurately and completely.
4. Accurately documents ALL sterilizer quality control records.
5. Demonstrates appropriate product recall as per departmental policy.
6. Ensures that sterilizers and sterilizer carts are maintained in clean working order.
Professional practice and development
1. Displays teamwork and initiative to ensure that all departmental needs and responsibilities are completed in a timely
fashion.
2. Uses time constructively to attending to departmental needs asn non-routine tasks.
3. Actively participates in departmental staff meetings and inservices.
4. Communicates information to peers related to clinical practice issues.
5. Answers phone clearly and professionally, identifying the department and self.
